Former Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has shared his views on aviation safety and Ghana’s broader development agenda.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Nhyira FM’s Kuro Yi Mu Nsem, Dr. Adutwum, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, expressed disbelief, recalling his own experiences aboard the Air Force’s aircraft.
On the recent military aviation tragedy, Dr. Adutwum believes the Air Force pilots are too experienced and disciplined to crash the helicopter.
“I have boarded the Air Force helicopter several times, and I never felt it could even crash because of the experienced and disciplined pilots and its smooth ride. I am still in a state of shock,” he stated.
The former minister criticised what he described as “slash and burn politics,” warning that such practices risk undermining national progress. He blamed the NDC for the inability of the Akufo-Addo government to sufficiently retool the Ghana Air Force.
“When Nana Addo decided to buy aircraft for the military, the then opposition MPs rose against it and played politics around it. The ‘slash and burn politics’ can put the lives of all Ghanaians at risk and eventually make politicians look stupid,” he cautioned.
According to him, politicians must learn to recognize and support the positive initiatives of the opposition in order to build the nation collectively.
“We cannot continue to demonize all the contributions of our political opponents for political gains. I believe if what a particular government is doing will help the nation, we must all support it and avoid unnecessary criticisms,” he stated.
Dr. Adutwum, however, highlighted the camaraderie that often exists in Parliament behind the scenes.
