The Accra Metropolitan Assembly AMA says it will not be distracted in its strife to provide quality service to residents of Accra despite a World Bank-sponsored survey which made damning findings about the assembly.
The survey which was conducted last year revealed many residents of the city are unhappy with the assembly’s work.
The survey indicates that residents perceive workers of the assembly to be corrupt and incompetent.
The Citizens Consultative Report Survey conducted under the auspices of the World Bank and the AMA touched on issues such as the states of toilets, drains and gutters, refuse and solid waste collection in the capital.
Residents consider toilet and sanitation to be their highest priority and roads their least. The report says only one-fifth of residents in Ablekuma, a suburb of Accra for example are satisfied with the state of gutters in the area.
The report also established many residents are concerned about filth at public markets. Close to two thirds of public market users in all sub-metros report that the market are dirty.
Residents are also dissatisfied with the poor manner the city authority fix service problems. Residents are therefore unwilling to report their problems to the assembly.
Joy News checks indicate the assembly has, as a result of these findings developed a crest with “I’m here to help you” embossed on it.
Every worker of the assembly is expected to wear the new crest.
AMA boss, Alfred Vanderpuije maintained his resolve to develop Accra into a modern city will not be broken by the survey findings.
