The Member of Parliament (MP) for Formena constituency, Andrew Asiamah Amoako has been appointed the 2nd Deputy Speaker for the 8th Parliament.
The Independent candidate was nominated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be the Second Deputy Speaker by the Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak.
“Mr Speaker, in line with article 96 of our constitution and the standing order 12, to rise and propose Honourable Andrews Asiamah Amoako, the Independent Candidate for the Fomena Constituency to take the chair as the Second Deputy Speaker of this august House.
He went on to describe the circumstances under which Mr Asiamah was dismissed from Parliament after deciding to run as a Independent Candidate and proposed that he be made to take the chair as 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
"Mr Speaker my colleague in the 7th parliament was the NPP member of parliament for  Formena and in a very bizarre circumstances, he was dismissed from this Chamber in a way that was in a rainbow style but he persevered and stood as an independent candidate… My colleague honourable Assiamah should take the chair as the 2nd Deputy Speaker, I so propose,” Muntaka Mubarak concluded.
His nomination was seconded by Affenyo-Markin.
According to him, Mr Assiamah is easy to address, calm in demeanour and has demonstrated his ability to work under challenging circumstances.
“My respected colleague in moving the motion drew our attention to a certain essential qualification of the candidate that he has studied in conflict management, therefore, Mr Speaker with that knowledge, I have no doubt at all in my mind that the opportunity given to serve in your absence over the assembly of this August House will be worth the while.
"With that more, I pray ye that this house will consider and accordingly elect him for the office of the 2nd Deputy Speaker of the 8th parliament of the Republic of Ghana. I do second."
Following proceedings in the house, the newly elected Speaker Alban Bagbin officially named Andrew Asiamah Amoako as the 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
