Tensions reached a boiling point in Juaboso in the Western North Region as a group of aggrieved youth forcefully evicted Chinese miners from a mining site.
The irate youth accused the miners of environmental destruction and failure to honour promises made to the community.
They stormed the mining area and halted all operations amid chants and protests.
According to the youth, despite years of operations, the miners have failed to provide jobs or developmental support to the local community, contrary to initial agreements.

They also cited dangerous mining practices, including the careless disposal of harmful chemicals, which they say are polluting water bodies and destroying farmlands.
At a press conference held after the incident, the spokesperson for the youth, Nana Agyeman Prempeh, said they were left with no choice after several unheeded appeals to both the company and local authorities.

He described the miners’ presence as a direct threat to the health, environment, and economic survival of the community.
Prempeh warned that the youth would not tolerate any future attempts to reinstate the miners or allow similar operations in the district, calling on the government to intervene and permanently halt illegal or exploitative mining activities in the area.
Meanwhile, police have moved in to secure the site and restore order as investigations into the matter continue.
