Some concerned youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District has appealed to President John Evans Atta Mills to appoint development oriented persons who has the party’s interest at heart as District Chief Executives (DCEs) to enhance development.They alleged that some members of the party in the Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District deserted the NDC and openly campaigned for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) while others campaigned for some Independent Parliamentary Candidates during the December 2008 general elections and that some of those people were now applying to become DECs in Professor Mills’ government.Speaking to the GNA in separate interviews in Bunkpurugu on Wednesday the youth said some of the people who had applied to become DCEs were not development oriented and that their loyalty to the NDC was also in doubt.They have, however, called for an independent inquiry into the background of all applicants regarding the roles they played in ensuring that the NDC won the Parliamentary seat and galvanize more supporters for the party to win power.Mr. Sika Lambon, from the Binbago Electoral Area said, “Monkey de work, Baboon de chop” eras were over and that the party would be doing a disservice to the people of Bunkpurugu and its surrounding communities, especially NDC members if the President went ahead to appoint some one without properly investigating the person’s loyalty to the party.He said the Nakpanduri-Bunkpurugu road was in deplorable state and needed someone who is committed to the party and would be able to carry the people’s development agenda forward and not some “opportunists” within the party.Mr. Kwaku Nabien a sympathizer of the party said a catastrophe would befall the NDC in 2012 if the President failed to ensure that proper investigations were done to come out with a credible person who deserves the position.He said there were some committed persons who worked tirelessly more than the constituency executives to ensure victory for the NDC and they deserved better than DCEs.Ms. Lariba Pagnati said: “Now that the NDC has come back to power some people were now coming out of their shells because they have Godfathers within the party in Accra and other places and were bragging that they would use money to buy the position.”Most of the people the GNA interviewed expressed concern about the acrimony within the rank and file of members of the party in the constituency and called for measures to be put in place in ensuring that the party would remain united after DCEs were nominated.The Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District has the highest number of applicants in the Northern Region for the DCE position of more than 35 and this had created division within the party and needed a thorough investigation to appoint someone who would be acceptable to all to unite the party.Source: GNA
