Former Ghana international Augustine Arhinful is tasking the Ghana Football Association to intensify scouting on opponents ahead of this month’s Nations Cup.
With about fourteen days to the start of the 29th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, in South Africa Ghana FA has been silent on scouting strategies for Ghana’s group B opponents, Mali, Niger and DR Congo.
Augustine Arhinful who serves as a member of the FA’s technical committee revealed on Saturday’s Joy Sports Link that he was unaware of the arrangements made by the FA for spying on Ghana’s Group B opponents.
“I really don’t know if there is any scouting in place because I haven’t heard anyone going to spy on the Nigerians, the Malians or the Congolese. It will cost us some money but we need to do the scouting if really we want to achieve results. It is not all about leaving everything in the hands of the coach, thinking he knows it all. ”
Reacting to Arhinful’s comments, the Ghana FA’s executive Committee Member, George Afriyie, said arrangements had been made for scouting. Though he did not mention the appointees, George Afriyie confirmed that two individuals had been tasked with the responsibility of gathering information on Black Stars’ opponents.
“Some individuals have been selected to go and spy on Ghana’s group opponents. They were chosen from the technical committee of which Arhinful is a member, it’s just unfortunate that he (Arhinful) is not aware. For security reasons, we cannot disclose the identity.”
The Black Stars team left Accra for Abu Dhabi on Friday night for a two-week training camp ahead of the start of the tournament. Ghana will be based in Port Elizabeth.
