Ex-Information Minister , is likely to be arrested by the Bureau of National Investigations following his failure to report to the security outfit on Monday. Stephen Asamoah Boateng was invited by operatives from BNI on Sunday after they (operatives) prevented him from travelling to the US with his family. The ex-minister is under investigation over the award of contract under his ministry when he was substantive Minister. Boateng’s passport was seized temporarily by the operatives, but his embittered wife snatched it back accusing the BNI operatives of not showing their identity cards. He told Joy News he would not cooperate with the BNI until he is formally invited. After his 24 hour deadline to report to the BNI close to elapsing, Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa insists the BNI would have no choice than to invoke its constitutional powers, including a power of arrest in order to drag the former minister before the law. He chided the ex-minister for not showing up at the BNI, saying he should have “erred on the side of caution” by making an appearance at the BNI even if he did not trust the authenticity of the request made by the operatives who stopped him at the airport yesterday. He described as “funny” and untenable demands by Mr. Boateng for a formal request to be made to him before he(Boateng) makes an appearance at the BNI. “Mr. Boateng is now setting his own rules of engagement. He is a better human being than Mr. Mpiani, Mr. Sammy Crabbe, Mr Victor Selormey, and Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata, E.T Mensah." He said Mr. Boateng should not engage in "machoism" and "unnecessary show of grandeur" if he has nothing to hide. Ablakwa noted the BNI would use the appropriate mechanism to haul the ex-minister for questioning. Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com
