Asongtaba in another guinea fowl controversy

In Joy News’ ongoing exposé on the AGAMS Group of companies owned by Roland Agambire, Manasseh Azuri Awuni puts the spotlight on the Asongtaba Cottage Industry and Exchange Programme and reveals its role in another guinea fowl project controversy.It was also found out what appears to be a mix up and delays in the execution of projects run by Asongtaba because of the numerous projects the company runs concurrently.In 2009 Asongtaba was awarded a contract to train 32,000 youth in seven modules. One of the modules is the guinea fowl rearing project. It is aimed at training 2000 youth in guinea fowl rearing in the three regions of the north.But the Upper West Regional Director of GYEEDA Saani Nurudeen says he is yet to hear about the project.Northern Regional Director of GYEEDA, Alhaji Mohammed Adam Abio also told although he has heard about the project he has no knowledge of its implementation. So why has Asongtaba not started this project?Joy News has evidence to show that Asongtaba was paid for the guinea fowl rearing project almost a year ago.The only site Asongtaba has indicated in its report as ready for the start of the project is the guinea fowl farm in the Upper East region. This farm used to be Asongtaba’s own guinea fowl project, according to its executive director, Henry Kanga.The farm belongs to the joint Venture company between Asongtaba and the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA). That same farm happens to be the major centre for the training of Youth in Guinea fowl rearing under GYEEDA. But GYEEDA will have to pay for the land and construction of the site. Another issue of interest in the guinea fowl project is the costs in the budget.For instance 10, 000 guinea fowl eggs are to be bought at a cost of GH¢ 2 cedis, 50 pesewas. But a guinea fowl egg does not cost more than 50 pesewas. It doesn’t appear the guinea fowl controversy will die soon. YESDEC, one of the companies belonging to the Jospong Group of Companies, is also training youth in guinea fowl rearing under GYEEDA.
