The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) appears to have admitted defeat in the just-ended Assin North by-election even before the Electoral Commission announces the official results.
The party's Director of IT has told JoyNews that things did not go as planned, but says they are hoping for good news as the Electoral Commission provides certified results.
Eric Ntori told JoyNews' Ohemeng Tawiah that “it didn’t go well for us but it doesn’t matter that we’ve lost it all.”
According to him, his side did their best and "will go back to the drawing board, prepare again and come back in 2024 and make sure we can snatch the seat again."
He says “Fortunately for us the good people of Assin North were prepared to support our position and to ensure that we all together righted the wrong which has been committed.“
Ahead of this admission, a leading Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Bede Ziedeng, expressed confidence that it was a done deal for James Gyakye Quayson.

“We have won the election by a landslide because from our own internally collated figures we are in the region of 17,000, while the NPP is struggling with 11,000. So the gap is quite wide, it’s much wider than what we had in the general election.”
So far, provisional results trickling in are tilting the victory further away from the NPP's Charles Opoku.
It has been a generally peaceful process with just pockets of incidents recorded since polls opened at 7 am.
