The Deputy Chief Executive of the National Sports Council, (NSC) Charles Aryeh, has challenged the various Associations under the umbrella of the Council to adopt proactive programs that would develop the disciplines.
Mr Aryeh said that remains the only way to promote the various disciplines to gain a nationalistic character.
The Deputy Chief Executive said this when he inaugurated the Ghana Pools Association (GPA) in Accra on Tuesday.
He urged the body which has Papa Arkhurst as President to endeavour to the build a vibrant association that will thrive on promoting and developing cue sports across the country.
The association is the 35th discipline under the Council.
Mr Aryeh was convinced that the inauguration of the Association would be a right step towards the fulfillment of the Council’s mandate to offer Ghanaians alternative sport disciplines.
Arkhurst on behalf of the executive members accepted the challenge to promote the sport, which is a growing and developing one in Ghana and pledged their commitment towards sensitizing all, especially the youth to readily take interest in it.
He said his outfit would seek to drive kids off the streets with the introduction of the sport, which he said appeals to both players and onlookers.
The President said in the long term, a national team would be formed to represent Ghana at international championships.
He said the association would push for the sport to be introduced in schools to attract mass participation.
The six-member executive include Lasisi Tayo Jnr, Vice President; Andrew Sackey,Secretary; Dr Archei Addo, Technical Advisor; Delali Nkulenu; Financial Secretary and Michael Aikins, Technical Director.
