Five suspects charged with the murder of a mobile money vendor at Kwadaso in Kumasi have been remanded into prison custody for two weeks.
The accused persons are Martin Amoah, alias Baba Macho, Charles Kwame Danso, Philip Fordjour, Samuel Adae Mensah, and Mavis Gyasi.
They are facing three charges: murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and robbery.
Police prosecutors prayed the court to remand the suspects into prison custody to allow for further investigations.
Counsel for the fifth accused, Mavis Gyasi, applied for bail for his client, but the request was declined by the Asokwa District Court.
The presiding judge, Her Worship Amy Bondzie Hanson, remanded all five into prison custody and adjourned the case to April 23, 2025.
Kumasi has witnessed several incidents involving the robbery and murder of mobile money vendors in recent months.
In the latest case, a 24-year-old vendor known as 'Junior' was killed in his one-room apartment at Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region. The deceased, who operated his MoMo business at the Kwadaso Onion Market, was discovered in a pool of blood on March 20.
The assailants allegedly made away with an undisclosed amount of money.
Earlier on February 13, another MoMo vendor, 27-year-old Patricia Nimako, was shot and killed in front of her shop at Krofrom, also in the Ashanti Region. The suspected armed robbers escaped with GH₵10,000 and several mobile phones.
Patricia’s mother, Madam Elizabeth Fosuaa, who was present at the Asokwa District Court during the hearing, called for justice to be served for her daughter.
