Mr Christopher Agboka, also known as Gbagbladza, a 90-year-old man at Datsiedu-Ziope, has reportedly been murdered by Edem Kpotsodzi, a 32-year-old farmer.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, January 6, has plunged the farming community into the Agortime-Ziope District of the Volta Region into mourning.
Mr Seth Adorvlo, the Assemblyman for the Ziope Electoral Area, confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in a phone interview.
He explained that the suspect had been plucking coconuts from the deceased’s farm.
When Mr. Agboka asked him to stop, saying the fruit was not yet mature, the suspect became infuriated.
According to Mr. Adorvlo, Edem Kpotsodzi reportedly went back to his house, retrieved a knife, and attacked the deceased, stabbing him multiple times in the stomach.
The assault led to the victim’s intestines being severely injured, resulting in his death.
Mr. Adorvlo added that the suspect fled the scene but was later apprehended by the police and is currently in custody, assisting with investigations.
GNA sources at the Ziope Police Station confirmed the arrest.
