Mr J.C Amoah, Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of Education, has called on Board of Governors of Teacher Training Colleges to support College authorities to instil discipline and morality in teacher trainees.
He said this was the surest way to produce disciplined and upright teachers to ensure sound teaching, learning and promote quality education at the basic levels.
Mr Amoah made the call at the inauguration of the reconstituted Board of Governors of Akrokerri Training College in Adansi North District.
The twelve-member Board is being chaired by Mrs Elizabeth Agyeman, Member of Parliament for Oforikrom and an old student.
Mr Amoah said in addition, the Board should create the right conditions that would enhance effective planning and management as well as promote conditions conducive for efficient teaching and learning in the Colleges.
He noted that the management of every educational institution should be a collaborative responsibility of both management and the community and advised members of the Board, Principal and staff to regard themselves as a team charged with the task of making the College one of the best in the country.
Mr Amoah urged them to show interest in environmental sanitation to promote healthy life and hygiene in the College.
Mrs Agyeman expressed appreciation to the authorities for the honour which was a challenge to serve her alma mater and pledged to work as a team player to design innovative policies and programmes that would help improve academic work at the College.
She said the College needed both internal and external support to ensure its smooth running and called on other members to work as a team to achieve their objective.
Mr J.K. Asare, Principal of the College expressed appreciation to the members for accepting the responsibility and was optimistic with their support, the College would move forward.
Other members of the Board were Nana Sarfo Agyeman, Vice Chairman, Mr C.W. Nuakoh, Mr Eric Kofi Frempong, Mr Gabriel Abraham Koranteng, Mr Edward Adams, Mr Kofi Tieku, Mr J.K Asare, Mr Otu Dyle, Mrs Abenaa Adu Poku, Mr Fredrick Aidoo and Nana Akwasi Boabeng.
