A legal practitioner, Bright Akwetey, has endorsed calls by the Committee for Joint Action for President Mills to establish a commission of enquiry to look into allocation of state lands to private individuals.
The CJA has accused officials of the Kufuor administration of selfishly allocating lands to themselves and wants the president to probe the matter.
Mr. Akwetey, himself a strong advocate for the return of Ga-Damgbe lands said he believes a presidential commission would do a better job than the courts.
“If you get a Commission of Inquiry with that Presidential seal, then it will have the authority of a high court so it can summon people and take evidence from them, it can require documents to be sent in by various public offices for inspection and for scrutiny.”
He told Joy News this is the best way to resolve the controversy surrounding the acquisition of state lands at prime areas in Accra.
Meanwhile, government says it is studying the request and will make its views known soon.
