Pro NDC group Young Democrats have condemned the hierarchy of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) of creating unnecessary brouhaha over Dr Mahmoud Bawumai’s accident.
They say calm deliberations are needed to ascertain the cause of the accident.
The 2012 vice presidential candidate of the NPP was involved in a serious accident when the car in which he was travelling got involved in an accident and somersaulted several times. That was after the back tires of the vehicle burst.
General Secretary of the party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie accused the ruling National Democratic Congress of plotting to assassinate Dr Bawumia.
However the Young Democrats, while expressing sympathy for Dr Bawumia and all others involved in the accident, say they are very unhappy about the manner in which the matter was being handled.
For instance, they cannot fathom why the accident car was towed without the consent of the police.
Mr Abass Osabutey, the Deputy Communications Director of the group, said it was important for the accident to be investigated thoroughly for sanctions to apply if it emerges that some people orchestrated it.
He said it was unfair that such misfortune is often conveniently blamed on political opponents just to gain public sympathy.
Mr Osabutey backed calls for Mr Owusu Afriyie to provide proof to buttress his claim or be made to face the law.
