The Confederation of African Football has announced that last year's Nations Cup hosted in Ghana generated abnormal revenue.
According to CAF Finance Commission boss, Suketu Patel, the tournament brought in about US$ 4.25 million, surpassing the minimum guarantee of US$ 3.8 million.
Caf also said gate proceeds from the 20 January- 10 February tournament were US$ 800,000, twice what was projected.
This news comes a plus for the local organizing committee which came under a lot of criticism.
Ghana won bronze after beating Ivory Coast in the third-placed match at the Baba Yara Stadium.Meanwhile the Ghana Football Association will be US$ 35,000 richer as a result of a new sponsorship deal secured for this month's African Nations Championship (CHAN) slated for Ivory Coast.
Caf has also renewed its sponsorship agreement with sports equipment manufacturers, adidas.
An improved deal will earn Caf over 46 million euros for the next eight years.Source: Ghanasoccernet
