A Kumasi Circuit Court on Tuesday sentenced a 22-year-old driver to a two-year jail term in hard labour for stealing two taxicabs belonging to his employers.
Yaw Asamoah, who always posed as a driver to car owners ended up running away with the cars.
The convict, who was involved in two of such cases, pleaded guilty for in case and guilty with explanation in the other but a plea of not guilty was entered for him after his explanation in the first case.
Asamoah will re-appear on April 13.
Police Chief Inspector R.K. Akoto told the court that Asamoah went to two complainants, Kwabena Obeng and Kwabena Opoku, both car owners on two different occasions to be employed as their driver.
After Mr Obeng had given him his Opel taxicab, the accused failed to make daily sales to him and went into hiding.
Mr Obeng spotted Asamoah at Kejetia and handed him over to the police. The taxicab was later found without the battery and tyres all valued at 1.4 million cedis.
Asamoah took Mr Opoku's taxicab valued at 15 million cedis and did not return it with the excuse that it developed a fault and was in a mechanical shop.
