The Constitutional Review Commission has pledged to ensure transparency as it works on proposed amendments to the constitution.
The constitutional review programme is expected to be conducted in three phases.
Commission Chairman, Prof. Albert Fiadjoe, says there will be consultations at the district, regional and national levels to ensure the process is inclusive.
“The commission is an independent body and assures the people of Ghana and it does not represent any particular interest group. That the process of reviewing the constitution will be open, impartial and transparent in order to afford all Ghanaians at home and abroad the opportunity to contribute to the process,” he said.
He also commended various political and civil society groups who have taken the initiative to collate views from the public for onward submission to the commission.
“We are encouraging groups that have the capacity that the NPP has to collect views from its constituencies and so on to do so because it helps our work,” Mr Fiadjoe indicated.
The public has up to December this year to submit proposals to the commission after which a national review conference will be organized in 2011.
The commission has a year and a half to complete its work and submit its report for action.
The review follows a promise by the Attorney General Betty Mould-Iddrisu that the Mills administration will consider a review of the constitution.
