Police in Mile 7 near Achimota in Accra have arrested a couple for allegedly beating their 8-year-old son to death.
The boy was suspected of an attempt to have sex with his mother.
According to the police, Comfort Abunbero, 26, together with the husband, buried the child near their house at Dome, a suburb of Accra.
The Mile 7 District Police Crime Officer, DSP Henry Agbeve would not give details but said the couple was arrested yesterday and had been provisionally charged with murder.
He told Joy News they were yet to fix a date to exhume the body of the 8-year- old for autopsy. He was buried “under the cover of darkness”.
The deceased’s grandmother told the police she was living with the boy in Northern Ghana until recently when his (boy) mother requested that she allowed the him to come and live with her in Accra.
According to the grandmother, she later heard the boy was dead and had been buried by the parent so she came to Accra to verify the report, and subsequently reported the case to the police.
The couple has since been giving “contradictory information” to the police, DSP Henry Agbeve said.
