The District Chief Executive for Fanteakwa Abass Fuseini Sbaabe has expressed worry over the lack of mandate by District Assemblies to monitor the implementation of projects being undertaken under the Millennium Development Authority, MiDA.
He says although consultants for these projects lack consistency in monitoring the projects, yet District Engineers do not have control in ensuring that quality standards are kept, in the implementation of MiDA projects.
Speaking in an interview with Joy FM at Begoro in the Eastern Region he mentioned that although beneficiary districts are considered as major stakeholders in the provision of various infrastructure and other facilities under the Millennium Development Authority projects, yet the quality of these projects could be compromised.
Abass Fuseini Sbaabe says District Assemblies have very little control over the implementation of activities under the project.
He says although consultants have been employed to oversee the project, yet these consultants do not supervise the project.
He argues that if the assemblies were made to have some control over these activities, District engineers would have been tasked to ensure that the right quantities in terms of the materials being used and quality of work, meets the required standards.
The situation he laments seems to make the project deem as charity, where the beneficiary has little to complain about.
Abass Fuseini Sbaabe added that much would have to be done to give some level of control to the Assemblies who are a major stakeholder, to ensure that standards are kept and the project is implemented to meet the needs of the people.
