Self-confession has landed a 21-year-old mason, Kennedy Bossoh, in trouble with the law.
He was alleged to have lured a grazing cow among the lot to a cassava farm, killed it and covered the meat with leaves, ostensibly to sell it the following day.
When the owner Amadu Baba found out that, one of his cows had been slaughtered, he confronted Bossoh but he denied responsibility until the following day, when he went to the Amasaman linguist's house to confess to the crime, because the soul of the cow was tormenting him in the night during his sleep.
The Amasaman District Police crime officer ASP R.C. Tottimeh who briefed the Spectator on Wednesday said Amadu went to graze with his eight cows near Bossoh's house at Obeyeyie, near Amasaman on September 28. 2010.
He said after sometime Amadu detected that one of the cows, valued at GH¢1.000 was missing from the lot.
The crime officer said Amadu conducted his own search and discovered that the missing cows was lured far away into a cassava farm, where it was slaughtered and covered with leaves.
He said Amadu confronted Bossoh, whose house was nearer to where the carcass had been found but he denied responsibility. Amadu then performed some rituals and offered prayers in front of the carcass before he left.
ASP Tottimeh said the following day, September 29, 2010, Bossoh voluntarily went to the house of the linguist to confess the crime, because he was being haunted and tormented by the soul of the cow in his sleep.
Bossoh was immediately handed over to the police despite his confession.
Detective Sgt. Jacob Onipayede who investigated the case, said Bossoh told the police that he committed the crime because he needed money to look after his pregnant wife who was due to deliver any moment from that time.
He said Bossoh has been granted a GH¢1,000 police enquiry bail but would be arraigned before court on charges of stealing, as soon as investigations are completed.
