The Democratic Movement of Ghana (DMG), a pressure group of minority political parties, has said its objective was to guard jealously the political gains so far made over the years. This, it said, would ensure peace, accountability and fulfilment of campaign promises by the ruling government.Speaking at a press conference in Kumasi over the weekend, Mr Ramadan Abu, National Chairman of the DMG, alleged that some individuals and political opponents of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were being harassed and humiliated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) members under the guise of recovering state assets.Mr Abu said NDC supporters have been seizing public toilets that the NPP Government gave out to contractors to manage and that the action was an embarrassment and could erode international goodwill built over the years. He said it was a serious issue that could kill investor confidence because the right to own property without fear and intimidation was a pre-requisite for attracting international and domestic investors.Mr Abu said it was sad that the leadership of the NDC had not openly condemned such acts being meted out to NPP supporters and called on President John Evans Atta Mills to openly come out and condemn those acts and not just issue statements of apology which have woefully failed to curtail the incidents. He noted: “One of the cardinal themes of the NDC campaign was the creation of a lean government and public accountability and as at now, President Mills had appointed about 75 Ministers of State.”The Chairman asked the Government to tell the nation, the expenditure incurred by the Transitional Team.Source: GNA
