President John Dramani Mahama has called on the country's security chiefs to discharge their duties with professionalism, without fear or favour, and with a strong commitment to their mandate.
Speaking after the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Major General William Agyapong, and other Service Chiefs visited the Jubilee House to pay their respects to him as the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, President Mahama expressed his full support, saying, "You have my complete backing. Be resolute in your leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces, and if changes are necessary, implement them with professionalism and courage."
He emphasised the need for unity within the ranks of the Armed Forces, urging the security chiefs to work as a cohesive and dedicated team.
"You must be united and work as one team, under the leadership of Major General Agyapong, the Chief of Defence Staff," he stated.
Furthermore, President Mahama tasked the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces to assist the Minister of Defence in prioritising and motivating officers, soldiers, and civilian staff within the defence sector.
"This is the surest way to enable the Ghana Armed Forces to effectively defend our democracy, safeguard our territorial integrity, and strengthen internal peace and security," he noted.
He also highlighted the importance of the Ghana Armed Forces' role in supporting national efforts to combat illegal mining, which has become a growing threat to national security and the environment.
"The Ghana Armed Forces must play an essential role in the fight against illegal mining and other challenges that threaten our country," he added.
As Commander-in-Chief, President Mahama reassured the security chiefs that he would continue to provide the necessary resources to enhance their operational capabilities and support their welfare.
"I will prioritise your welfare and ensure that you have the support and resources needed to carry out your duties effectively," he concluded.
