Parliament on Wednesday passed the appropriation bill but not without another controversy.
The bill which is the total amount of money government intends to appropriate or disburse next year for its activities was said to have been inflated by over GHc390,000 million.
Member of Parliament for Amenfi East Joseph Boahene Aidoo who protested the approval of the bill said the amount provided by the Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor did not add up.
He told Joy News’ Parliamentary correspondent Sammy Darko the amount, part of which was allocated for social intervention programmes was taken from statutory funds such as the GETfund, NHIS Fund and the District Assembly Common Fund, a practice which should not be entertained.
Worst still, part of the money could not be accounted for, he alleged.
The Finance Minister, who was asked to explain the figures, could not, at least at the time, and asked for some time to reconcile the figures with his technical team.
This according to Sammy Darko led to a suspension of sitting to allow for the reconciliation to be made.
On his return after a marathon meeting, the Finance Minister is reported to have attributed the double figures to an error.
He said the amount on the social intervention was wrongly over bloated.
Parliament then amended the new figures before approving the appropriation bill worth a little over 12 billion Ghana cedis.
