What started as a pothole has now magnified into a manhole at Hansonic Junction in Dansoman. The pothole has aggravated the plight of drivers who are constantly sending their vehicles to mechanics for repair, said Joy FM’s Kwesi Parker-Wilson.
In a report on the Super Morning Show Wednesday, Parker said the road is in deplorable condition, and the rains are making it worse. Rainwaters sit in the hole for days, causing vehicles to get stuck, which creates traffic that stretches for miles.
Some residents in the area offer to help, but only if the driver pays them ¢10, Parker-Wilson reported.

“The government should come and help us fix the road,” said one driver who uses the road daily.
He lamented that the hole is hitting his pocket. Every week he must take his car in for repair. His time in mechanic shops has taken time out his day to make money, he said, adding that it is a “waste of time. Waste of money.”

The road surrounding the hole is riddled with other smaller potholes of different sizes, shapes and depth, Parker-Wilson said. People have urged authorities to come and fix the road, but he says their complaints have been left unanswered. They have had to resort to filling the pothole themselves with sand and stones.
Joy News also discovered that a heavy stench has permeated from within the hole where sewage water has seeped into.
The Ministry of Roads and Highways did not immediately respond to requests to comment on the matter, but on its website, it states that “the Ministry of Roads and Highways is to initiate and formulate road infrastructure policies and programmes taking into account the needs and aspirations of the people.”
