A Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Mr. Adenze Kanga says the commission is not scared of time following the extension of the voter registration exercise. He gave the assurance that the extension was not going to affect the EC’s time table for the December elections.Speaking to Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah My Kanga, said it was unfortunate that people were just abusing the system. He said the problems surrounding the exercise were artificially created.According to him, the planning of the EC was based on statistical data from the 2000 population census. The records he said showed registering one million new voters which the EC envisaged was exaggerated. The Deputy EC Chairman cited the Central Regional for example which registered over 80,000 new voters and which has never in the past registered more than 40,000.Mr. Kanga appealed to people “in the queues who are there for voter IDs to leave the queues”.He said “some people are just cheating”.Mr. Kanga also faulted political parties for not helping the system. He said minors were seen queues and yet stakeholders were not doing anything about that.Story by Malik Abass Daabu
