Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana Cephas Gakpo is denying reports that he has been sacked.
Some media reports suggest that Mr Gakpo has been sacked as a result of agitations among the staff of the company for his removal.
But he explained in an interview with Joy News that although he attained his statutory retirement age last year, he was put on a one year contract which ends this month.
He said the contract terms were that he will take his contract leave a month before the expiration of the contract term.
“So that is what is going on. It is a normal retirement at, let’s say, 61 so I don’t think the word is removal or proceed on leave as if it is punitive,” he added.
Mr Gakpo said he is looking forward to a long period rest after many years in active public service.
