The third edition of the EmpowHer Tennis Camp has officially served off in Accra at the Accra Sports Stadium, running from July 28 to August 3.
The week-long event serves as a vibrant platform dedicated to nurturing young and rising tennis talents. With a strong focus on empowerment, skill development, and competitive play, the program aims to inspire and shape the next generation of champions.
Speaking to JoySports, Peter Mensah, President of the PM Sports Foundation, highlighted the importance of the initiative:
“We’ve been running the PM Sports program since 2016/17, and our aim has always been to give back through sports,” he said.
“We were the first to introduce deaf tennis in the country, and over the years, we’ve been committed to creating opportunities because our own lives were transformed through sports, particularly tennis. This is our third edition and third year organizing the EmpowHer camp. Our goal is to reach about 5,000 kids annually, handpicking a select few each year to participate in this camp.
Throughout the week, participants gain exposure to all aspects of tennis, and beyond the court, we take them on educational road trips to help them acquire knowledge, plan for the future, and explore various career paths within sports. We’re not expecting everyone to become champions, but there are many avenues in sports where these kids can thrive.”
The week-long camp is scheduled to wrap up on Saturday, August 2, 2025, with organizers optimistic about its growing impact on youth development in Ghana.
