Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticised the European Union's Election Observation Mission Report (EU EOM) of attempting to repair President Akufo-Addo's tainted reputation.

Peter Boamah Otokunor said the report failed to capture the violent incidents recorded in parts of the country during the 2020 electioneering process.

He said the conclusions of the Observer Mission used defective tools in analysing polls and cannot represent the true reflection of the election.

"And that is why we are having this report which I think ostensibly is a report just crafted to clean the broken International image of President Akufo-Addo. I am making this conclusion based on the key issues that matter most to the people of this country, that we all saw, debated and discussed" he said on Wednesday.

Speaking to Evans Mensah on PM Express, the Deputy General Secretary said the EU EOM report should have focused on how some Ghanaians were prevented from participating in the Election 2020.

Mr Otokunor's comments come at the back of the EU Election Observation Mission to Ghana released a press statement that talked about the final report on the December 7 presidential and parliamentary polls.

According to the conclusion of the report, the 2020 election was efficiently organised, competitive and saw voters participating freely in large numbers, and successfully met a range of international standards.

The report also included recommendations and proposals for consideration by the Ghanaian people and aimed at improving future electoral processes and strengthening Ghana’s democracy.

But the NDC Deputy General Secretary bemoaned the inability of the report to highlight the deliberate ploy of the Election Commission and President Akufo-Addo in preventing residents of Lolobi, Likpe, Akpafu and Santrokofi from participating in the parliamentary election.

"This report excluded the security situation which was the worst ever in our electoral history. This report excluded how the Electoral Commission threw all cautions to the wind and was so biased; openly biased in running the electoral process excluding people, preventing people and disenfranchising people" he added.

The NDC Deputy General Secretary said he found it incomprehensible that after studying the document over and over again, there is no aspect of the report that talks about security, since that is one of the many metrics one can use to measure how free or fair an election really is.

Meanwhile, NPP General Secretary, John Boadu described the NDC's attack on President Akufo-Addo and the EU's Observation Mission Report as most unfortunate.

He said the report must be examined holistically and to assist perfect the subsequent elections.
