Mrs Comfort Forkuoh, an award winning farmer, in the Amansie Central district, has urged the youth to go into agriculture because it is more rewarding. She said farming is a dignified job and should not be shunned by young and energetic people. Mrs Forkuo, who was adjudged the 2010 district best maize farmer, made the appeal through the Ghana News Agency (GNA), at Jacobu. She said it was time the people did away with the negative perceptions and attitudes towards farming, to help the nation achieve food security, bring down the growing youth unemployment and win the fight against poverty. Mrs Forkuo has 18 acres of maize and plans to increase it next year. She counselled her colleague farmers to establish effective working relationship with the Agricultural Extension Officers, to be exposed to modern farming techniques. It was by so doing that they would achieve significant increase in crop yield and returns, she said.
