The Food and Drugs Board is questioning three pharmaceutical agencies for importing fake malaria drugs.
The drugs were discovered in the Ashanti Region during a post-market surveillance exercise by the FDB.
Speaking to Joy News, the head of post-market surveillance, Thomas Amedzro said the culprits will face the full rigours of the law.
He said they found “some quinine syrup, chloroquine injections… We’ve invited them over for questioning so that we will determine the source of the product and how far they’ve distributed them.”
He said one of the companies involved in the production of the chloroquine syrup, Akoma Phamarceutical, is not registered with the FDB, making its operation in the country an illegality.
He therefore stressed that after the investigations the appropriate sanctions will be meted out to the offending companies.
