The Ghana federation of labor says the Tema Special Steel Company must be shut down unless the company strictly adheres to safety work regulations.
Several workers of the company were injured in line of duty, yesterday. It followed a similar accident three months which forced the Employment Ministry to temporarily shut down the company for safety measures to be put in place.
After the resumption of duty however several other explosions have occurred.
Six workers including one expatriate were the latest casualties as they got seriously injured after an explosion at the company last night.
Several others who sustained various degrees of injuries are currently been treated at the hospital.
General Secretary of the Ghana Federation of Labour Mr Abraham Koomson, told Joy News the accidents in the company are one too many and must be shut down.
He said what happened in the company can be blamed on negligence and not accident.
“This cannot be called accident. They are not accident. They are deliberate incidents that are created by the employers, he said.
Meanwhile Deputy Managing director of the company, Rajan Kumar has downplayed the magnitude of the accident.
He described it as just a splash of liquid metal and therefore could not have been avoided.
He said the company resumed operations after 15 minutes of the splash.
Deputy Minister of Employment and Social Welfare Antwi Boasiako Sekyere who was at the company this morning said though the accident is not so deadly, he wants operations there to be automated and regulated.
