The chairperson of the adjudicatory chamber of the Ethics Committee has provisionally banned the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and FIFA Council member, Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, for a duration of 90 days.

The independent Ethics Committee says the duration of the ban may be extended for an additional period not exceeding 45 days.

During this time, Mr Nyantakyi is banned from all football activities at both national and international level (administrative, sports or any other). The ban comes into force immediately. 

The decision was taken upon the request of the chairperson of the investigatory chamber of the Ethics Committee carrying out the formal investigation proceedings into Mr Nyantakyi, pursuant to article 83 paragraph 1 and article 84 paragraph 2 of the FIFA Code of Ethics.

Article 83 (1) states: "At the request of the chairman of the investigatory chamber or the chief of the investigation, the chairman of the adjudicatory chamber may take provisional measures (e.g. provisional sanctions) if a breach of the Code of Ethics appears to have been committed and a decision on the main issue may not be taken early enough. The chairman of the adjudicatory chamber may also issue provisional measures for preventing interference with the establishment of the truth." 

Similarly, FIFA's Article 84 (2) states that: The chairman of the adjudicatory chamber may make his decision on the basis of the case files available to him, without hearing the parties, in which case the parties shall be summoned to a hearing or invited to submit writtenstatements after the decision has been issued. After hearing the parties, the chairman of the adjudicatory chamber shall confirm, revoke or amend his decision."

The Anas 'Number 12'

The investigative piece titled: "Number 12; when misconduct and greed become the norm", undertaken by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye PI, exposed rot in the football game across Africa. 

Wednesday's premiere of an investigative documentary about corruption at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and other football agencies has elicited a barrage of varied Facebook comments and sent shock waves across the nation.

Over 100 referees and other football officials were seen taking cash before games with the intention of manipulating the outcomes of these games.

The focus of the documentary, at least for Ghanaians, was on GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi.

Kwesi Nyantakyi was promised a million-dollar reward package if he can arrange access to President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his vice, Mahamoudu Bawumia in a bid to manipulate Ghana sports from the very top.

The undercover journalist gave Mr Nyantakyi $65,000 for showing up for the meeting to discuss how to get unimpeded access to the first gentleman of Ghana.

Government on Thursday announced it had taken steps to dissolve the GFA over ampant bribery and corruption in the game.

Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, says all its officers can no longer carry themselves as FA officials. 'It has been dissolved with immediate effect', he told Joy News' Evans Mensah on Newsnight.

"When we say the FA is dissolved it means all functions, all activities are all dissolved", he said and mentioned the suspension of the Premier League.

Government has directed the Registrar-General to remove the name of the GFA from its books. The Police has also begun investigating all persons indicted in the documentary titled 'Number 12'.
