A mid-day fire broke out at the Tema Community 9 Market on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, destroying several structures and disrupting commercial activities in the area.
The blaze was reported at 12:32 PM, prompting a swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Fire crews from the Motorway, Tema Industrial, and Tema Metro Fire Stations arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire within two hours.
In total, 15 structures were affected by the blaze, including three wooden residential structures and nine metal containers used for commercial purposes.

All twelve were completely destroyed, while an additional three containers sustained partial damage.
Despite the destruction, fire officers successfully prevented the blaze from spreading to other nearby structures.

No injuries or casualties were recorded, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
However, the GNFS has confirmed that the area where the fire started has been identified, which is expected to aid in determining the source.

The service commended the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and the Ghana Police Service for their coordination and support during the operation.
Authorities are urging the public, particularly market vendors and residents in fire-prone areas, to strictly adhere to safety measures to prevent future incidents.
