Hearts of Oak striker Eric Gawu is yet to assert himself since joining Hearts in the January transfer window. Eric Gawu was below par last season, but he has promised himself of an improved season when the league comes around.
Gawu raved the headlines when he joined Hearts from King Faisal in a whopping ¢600 million move which made him the biggest transferred player on the local league.
But all the hype that greeted his arrival to Hearts fizzled out when he failed to live up to expectation.
The former Faisal player reckons it is time to make amends in the league and stake a claim for the goal king title.
Gawu ended last season disappointingly, scoring less than six goals but as a firm believer of God, he trust all is not lost and intends to come good next season.
He has been heard on a different platform saying "I owe my goals to God and I always pray to God to give me goals."
His knack for goals seems to have deserted him in his first season but he is bent on changing that.
Only last Sunday Gawu scored the solitary goal for Hearts to beat All Blacks in, a pre season friendly game.
Gawu's performance seems to be on the up in Hearts friendly matches and this has earned him plaudits from deputy coach Karim Zito.
"Gawu is improving match after match and I like his input during games" Zito said after the All Blacks match.
Gawu's fame spread when he helped Faisal qualify for the Confederations Cup, some three season's ago. He also last featured for the Black Stars against DR Congo in Kumasi in an African and World Cup qualifier.
