A senior lecturer at the University if Ghana, Dr. Collins Badu Agyemang, has questioned the Ghana Football Association's decision to overlook local psychologists when hiring for the Black Stars.
Last month, the GFA appointed Belgian Kris Perquy as Team Psychologist for the Black Stars.
Speaking on GamePlan on Joy FM on Friday, Dr. Badu Agyemang questioned the recruitment process.
''Is it that we advertised for this position and we never got anyone in Ghana? Is the move to have a psychologist widely advertised? We went through a process and we never got one? One would have thought (that) perhaps this position be advertised and then a final selection decision is made.''
Dr. Badu Agyemang also urged the GFA to look within, for subsequent appointments.
''I don’t think the principle of hiring someone other than a Ghanaian is wrong but in most cases, what we may want to ask is, do we have the human resource to be able to support our country?. So the question is as to whether we do have sports psychologists in Ghana? Yes we have registered Ghanaians who are sports psychologists.''
Ghana will face Chad in Accra next month, in a FIFA 2026 World Cup Qualifier.
