The Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee has insisted there are no truth to reports that the team's winning bonuses have slashed.
George Afriyie maintains all figures remain the same.
According to him, no attempt to change the bonus structure - as widely speculated by the media - has been verbally or formally communicated to the FA by the sports ministry.
“The GFA deals directly with the Stars and is the link between the team and the ministry. Any review in bonus, either upward or downwards will be discussed with us first. I can say that no one has raised the issue with the FA either formally or casually and, therefore, [we] cannot accept it as true."
He went on to note that it will be a serious breach of trust if such a major policy change is implemented without the involvement or knowledge of the FA.
All this was his reaction on Friday to the widely-reported alleged pay cuts by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to the Black Stars earning scheme. The reports, including one from Joy FM, had cited ministry sources as saying a 50% reduction will be implemented.
If that happens, the team will now be given $5,000 per player, as recommended by the Dzamefe Commission in its recommendations.
“Of course, the government who pays the bonuses reserves the right to review it, but I believe the sports minister will use a proper medium to make such an announcement, not as we have heard being bandied around,” George Afriyie told Asempa FM.
“So l can confidently tell you that nothing has changed. We still paying the same winning bonuses to the players until we can get new directives from the sports ministry,” he finished.
All eyes will be on this story in the coming weeks as the team for the next Afcon 2017 is named and the team heads to Rwanda for the clash at the beginning of September.
