The Member of Parliament for Karaga and former Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has donated 4,000 gallons of fuel to residents of the constituency as part of a New Year outreach aimed at easing transportation and business costs.
The fuel distribution, which took place in Karaga, targeted a wide range of transport operators, including motorbike riders, tricycle operators, commercial drivers, and farmers using tractors. The initiative is part of the MP’s office’s Anta Transformative Development Agenda, a social intervention framework designed to support livelihoods across the constituency without political or social discrimination.
According to organisers, 65 commercial and private vehicles each received four gallons, totaling 260 gallons. Tractors were allocated 400 gallons, with each receiving four gallons. About 400 tricycles received two gallons each, accounting for 800 gallons, while motorbikes took the largest share—over 2,540 gallons—with each rider getting one gallon of petrol.
Several beneficiaries expressed appreciation, noting the donation provides temporary relief amid high fuel prices and low incomes.
“This fuel will help me reduce my operating cost, at least for some days,” said Abdul Rahman, a commercial motorbike rider in Karaga. “When fuel prices go up, our profit goes down. This support means I can save some money and still work.”
A tricycle operator, Amina Seidu, added: “Sometimes all the money we make goes back into fuel. Getting two gallons free helps us move around and serve more customers.”
Farmers also welcomed the initiative. Ibrahim Mahama, who benefited through the tractor allocation, noted, “Fuel is one of our biggest expenses. Any reduction helps us cultivate more land.”
Local drivers and residents described the gesture as inclusive, highlighting that beneficiaries were drawn from across the constituency regardless of political affiliation. While temporary, such interventions help cushion households and small businesses during periods of economic pressure.
According to his office, the fuel donation is part of several social support activities undertaken by the MP in Karaga. Supporters say the initiative is unusual in scale for the northern sector, particularly in its focus on transport operators and farmers, who form a significant part of the local economy.
