The vice president of Ghana Athletics, Charles Osei Asibey, has called on the government to commit to investing in athletics if the country is to see more success in the sport.
According to him, athletics has been the country's best source of success in the last decade but more could be achieved if they are given the same attention as they do for football.
He draws attention to the need to offer full support to help them reach their objective of winning an Olympic medal in the coming years.
Ghana has failed to win an Olympic medal in track and field events in its 18 global appearances with Osei Asibey confident that could change if they get financial backing.
"We challenge Ghana and the government, to give athletics $1 million and we’ll get you the results you’re asking," he said at a press conference on Monday.
"The other Athletes you see all over the world are not better than our athletes, remember our athletes are student-athletes,- they live in the States, in the UK. If they don’t work, they cannot feed.
"Kenya decided to make Omanyala a national project, see what the Nigerians are doing, they have companies and individuals and even the states supporting their student-athletes.
"What have we done for athletes? Anytime I say this, I speak with passion, in the last 10 years no discipline has done better than athletics, it’s a fact."
The newly-elected administration will look to start their journey on a good note with the 2023 Africa Games not too far off.
