Ghana will be renewing her running rivalry with neighbours, Nigeria come June 30 at the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre when they lock horns at the second edition of the Ghana Meets Naija concert.
The annual concert, the brainchild of Empire Entertainment headed by Kwabena Anokye Adisi, aka Bola Ray, is the only platform that taps into the two country’s talents and fierce rivalry to foster unity through the magic of music.
This year’s event, which was launched at a very colourful event at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra Wednesday, is coming on the heels of a very successful concert last year. That event carved a niche as a most well-organised and well-attended event of 2011.
It lined up the likes of J. Martins, Naeto C, 9ice and 2Face representing Nigeria while Castro, VIP, 4×4, Ruff n Smooth, D-Cryme, Stay Jay, Keche and Atumpan held it down for Ghana.
Wednesday's launch was graced by the Deputy Minister for Information, James Agyenim Boateng and chaired by Chief Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine who attached so much importance to the occasion that he had to cancel a trip back home to celebrate his own birthday, as well as some of the seasoned acts billed to perform at this year’s concert.
This year, Ghana Meets Naija has on its menu another unique array of heavy music hitters from both territories. “The most star studded line-up of performers both music industries have got to offer,” Organizers revealed.
From the Nigerian corner, there are the sexy Tiwa Savage, Davido of Dami Duro fame, Brymo, M.I., amongst others. Davido and Brymo attended the launch Wednesday.
Bola Ray disclosed that there are other surprise acts “that will blow your mind,” lined up for the big night, promising to make them known as the night approaches.
In the Ghanaian corner, there is an impressive list of today’s mega hits makers who keep filling dance halls and the airwaves. On stage on Republic Day’s eve will be Guru of Lapaz Toyota fame, Kwaw Kese, Buk Bak, Kaaki, Tiffany and more.
Some of the artistes who spoke at the launch promised to treat fans to a memorable concert which according organizers, is going to be a two-league affair. The Nigeria concert will be staged on a yet to be announced date, Bola hinted.
This year’s Ghana Meets Naija concert is supported by MTN, rlg, Moet Chandon, Hennessy and other partners.
