Ghanaian journalist Ibrahim Sannie Daara has been nominated for this year's prestigious Foreign Press Association Media Awards (FPA Media Awards) in Britain.
Sannie was nominated for the Sports Story of the Year category of the event that rewards the best in the world of international journalism.
Earlier this year, along with his BBC World Service colleague Gavin Lee and producer Edward Main, they carried out an investigation exposing conmen who were masquerading as football agents and this attracted the nomination.
The investigation received worldwide acclaim as fake agents in Nigeria were exposed for exploiting many poor young Africans footballers who were conned out of thousands of dollars in the sophisticated scam.
Many of the world's major broadcasters, newspapers and news magazines were among the large number of entries for the eleven awards.
Competition for this year's awards has been intense, but at a stirring meeting last night a shortlist was finally decided.
The nomination should spark massive celebration for Sannie as winning a FPA Media Award is justly seen as the crowning achievement of any journalist's career - and just being shortlisted is to be set among the elite of the profession.
Winners will be chosen from the shortlist and announced on November 25 at a black-tie dinner before an audience including figures from international current affairs in a plush London hotel.
The Foreign Press Association in London was established in 1888 and is one of the oldest press clubs in the world.
It represents more than 740 members of the foreign media based in London from more than 70 countries and is the only body authorised to issue press cards to the foreign media in Britain.
