The Acting Commissioner of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB), John M. K. Wumborti, has assured the public that Ghana’s airspace remains safe, despite concerns over the recent Z-9 helicopter crash and emergency landings by other aircraft.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, Mr Wumborti stressed that aviation in Ghana is heavily regulated and monitored, with strict safety protocols guiding every flight.
“Before an aircraft moves, it is not child’s play. What goes into preparing an aircraft for takeoff ensures that passengers have 99.999% certainty of reaching their destination safely,” he said.
He noted that Ghana recently scored 89.89% in a safety audit, an indication of the robustness of the country’s aviation safety system.
Mr Wumborti urged the public to remain confident in the nation’s air travel, insisting that all necessary preventive measures are taken whenever warning signs are detected.
“Our airspace is safe, our aircraft are safe, and we want to allay the fears of the general public. They can travel with confidence,” he added.
He further called on the media to support the Bureau in educating the public about aviation safety.
