The Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced that Ghana’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) recorded significant growth in 2024.
He made this revelation during the presentation of the 2025 Budget Statement in Parliament on Tuesday, 11th March.
Dr Forson highlighted that the economy showed strong resilience, posting higher-than-expected growth despite prevailing global and domestic challenges.
He noted that this performance reflects the effectiveness of various economic policies implemented over the past year.
"Ghana’s real GDP growth in 2024 was remarkable, exceeding projections and demonstrating our economy’s capacity for recovery," he stated.
The Minister, however, pointed out that a portion of the recorded growth included proceeds from illegal small-scale mining, commonly known as ‘galamsey.’
He acknowledged concerns about the impact of galamsey on the environment and stated that the government is working on measures to ensure sustainable economic growth that does not come at the expense of the country’s natural resources.
Dr Forson reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening key sectors of the economy while addressing fiscal vulnerabilities.
He assured that efforts are being made to implement policies that will promote responsible and sustainable economic activities, ensuring long-term stability and inclusive growth.
