Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG) and the Justice Revived Foundation (JRF) are calling for action after a disturbing case of gang-defilement involving a 13-year-old girl, from Madina, Accra.
The girl, a pupil of Madina No. 3 School, was allegedly assaulted by over 20 men, including teenagers, starting in February 2025.
The assault has left her pregnant and emotionally shattered.
A statement from HRRG and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra said she has bravely shared her story, revealing that the main suspect, 45-year-old mason Clement Kwame, lured her with false promises before forcing her into the horrific acts.
Residing close to home, Kwame according to the statement was accused of coordinating the attack with several accomplices some of who are believed to be friends who took part in multiple assaults.
The girl, according to the statement, was threatened to remain silent, which severely hampered her ability to seek help.
According to the statement the case was now with the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Madina.
“Authorities have made some arrests, but HRRG and JRF are concerned that key suspects, including Kwame, remain at large”.
The organizations are appealing to the authorities to expedite investigations and treat her with compassion, arrest Clement Kwame and all other suspects, prosecute all offenders to the fullest extent of the law, and provide her with full medical, psychological, and social support for her trauma and ongoing pregnancy.
“We will not rest until justice is served,” said representatives of HRRG and JRF. “Every child has the right to safety, and perpetrators must be held accountable.”
This case highlights the need for stronger protections for children against sexual violence in Ghana.
“HRRG and JRF urge stakeholders government, civil society, and the public to step up efforts, enforce existing laws, and foster an environment where children can grow up without fear”.
