Firefighters have successfully brought under control a fire outbreak involving three shops at Madina Zongo Junction in Accra, following a coordinated response by the Ghana National Fire Service.
A major fire outbreak has engulfed parts of the Madina Market in Accra, prompting an emergency response from the GNFS as crews worked to bring the situation under control.
According to an update on Facebook by the GNFS, the incident occurred on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, affecting shops located on the ground floor of a one-storey commercial building.
An emergency distress call was received at 4:41 p.m., prompting the immediate dispatch of a fire crew from the Madina Fire Station, which arrived at the scene within two minutes, at 4:43 p.m. Firefighters from the Legon Fire Station later joined the operation to reinforce containment efforts.

The fire was brought under control by 5:00 p.m. and fully extinguished at 5:25 p.m. No injuries or fatalities were recorded, and all occupants in the vicinity were reported safe.

Initial assessments show that one shop and its contents were completely destroyed by the blaze, while two other shops suffered partial damage.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are currently underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the outbreak.
