Leading telecommunications company, Globacom has secured the sponsorship of the broadcast of the 2013/2014 English Premier League (EPL), live matches on frontline pay TV, DSTV starting from last weekend.
The sponsorship is for three football seasons, (2013-2016).
The package includes EPL live matches, EPL match reviews, EPL Preview, Premier League World and studio branding. The matches will run from August to May every season.
With this sponsorship, Globacom has consolidated its position as the number one supporter of football in Africa.
Globacom is the sponsor of the annual Glo-CAF Awards which celebrates the best of Africanfootball where talented Africans who have excelled either playing or administering the beautiful game of football are honoured, thus uplifting the round leather game in the continent.
The company is also the major sponsor of the national teams of Nigeria and Ghana as well as the official sponsor of Glo Premier Leagues in both countries.
Globacom recently committed the sum of N1.9 billion to sponsor the Nigerian Premier League for the next three years.
The company is also the official telecoms partner of Manchester United in Nigeria, Ghana and Benin Republic, the major sponsor of Nigeria and Ghana Football Supporters’ Clubs and the Glo Soccer Academy.
Speaking on the new development, the Group Chief Operating Officer of Globacom, Mr. Mohamed Jameel restated the commitment of the company towards the development of the game of football, not only in Nigeria but across Africa.
He reassured football lovers that "The sponsorship is designed to sustain the value the network gives to millions of its subscribers. We want football lovers to enjoy the best of English league as the premier league kicks-off formally last weekend.”
