The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has firmly rejected a report by Asaaseradio alleging that the statutory body incurred more than GH¢3 billion in losses during its first year of operations.
In a statement issued on Monday, November 17, GoldBod described the publication as “entirely false and deliberately contrived” to discredit its performance and downplay its contribution to Ghana’s economic recovery.
“The GoldBod wishes to put on record that the publication under reference is entirely false and deliberately contrived to undermine the successes and significant contribution of the GoldBod to the revitalisation of Ghana’s economy,” the statement said.
GoldBod insisted that, far from recording losses, it has posted “significant surpluses” since its establishment. The organisation added that its quarterly financial statements, soon to be published on its official website, will confirm its profitability.
“Quarterly financial statements of the GoldBod, which will soon be published on the official website of the statutory corporation, will bear this fact out,” it noted.
The board urged the public to disregard the Asaaseradio report, describing it as misleading and unethical. It also demanded a full retraction and apology from the media house.
“The Ghana Gold Board urges the general public to treat this false publication by ‘Asaaseradio’ with utmost contempt and calls on the management of the station to retract and render an unqualified apology to the general public for such misleading and unethical publication,” the statement added.
