Mr. Mahama Ayariga, Press Secretary and Presidential Spokes Person, on Sunday said government was not involved in the situation in which interdicted Managing Director of the National Investment Board (NIB), Mr Kofi Gyima found himself.
He said government was not behind the refusal of the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) to release Mr Gyima from police custody despite a Judicial order to the effect that he be granted bail.
Mr. Ayariga was speaking to journalists at the Kotoka International Airport, Accra, in reaction to discussions in the media concerning the issue. This was after the arrival of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of Liberia in Ghana.
Press Secretary and Presidential Spokes Person said that the former NIB boss, as part of the bail provision, was supposed to have provided four sureties including one with property of worth, not less than $500,000.
Mr. Ayariga explained that although the lawyers of Mr. Gyima were able to provide the four sureties including property valued at $500,000, investigations revealed that the property belonged to the interdicted NIB boss.
He said the situation in which Mt Gyimah found himself was purely related to the law and that government had no hand whatsoever in the matter.Source: GNA
