Accra Hearts of Oak laboured to a disappointing goalless draw with Young Apostles in the Ghana Premier League.
Sunday’s draw is the sixth stalemate for the Phobians in eleven league matches.
Before the match, Hearts coach Didi Dramani stressed the need to score goals; his team lacked any firepower. Apostles did not fare any better in that regard, as both teams struggled to create decent goal-scoring opportunities.
Young Apostles were unlucky when Samuel Prempeh rose highest to attack a corner, but his header missed by inches in the 31st minute.
Midway through the second half, Hearts went close but Hussein Mohammed’s pass to Hamza Issah was intercepted in the box.
On either side of the two incidents, the match flew by without any notable events.
The draw reflects the two sides’ abysmal performance in front of goal. Hearts have scored only eight goals from eleven matches this season, while Apostles have scored eleven goals in eleven matches.
Hearts, who started the day in the top five, end the weekend in sixth place with 18 points. The Phobians are gradually slipping away from the league and are five points behind league leaders, Aduana Stars.
Hearts and Apostles are now winless in their last three league matches, after Sunday’s draw.
Apostles will make two away trips to Swedru All Blacks and Vision F.C. before hosting Karela United in their next three league matches.
The Phobians' next three matches are against Vision F.C. (home), Karela (away) and Nations F.C. (home).
