NPP flagbearer candidate Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has urged the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to reform its approach toward local businesses, describing its methods as “harsh and intimidating.”
He made the call during an outreach engagement with constituents in the Central Region, highlighting concerns about how revenue collection practices are affecting entrepreneurship.
“The GRA should stop treating Ghanaian businessmen like criminals. When people try to build companies in this country, they go through too much frustration. How do we expect to create jobs when the very institutions meant to help are scaring business owners?” Ken Agyapong said.
The NPP flagbearer candidate argued that aggressive practices by some GRA officials create the perception that business owners are suspects rather than partners in national development.
He emphasised that such treatment discourages investment and undermines efforts to create sustainable employment for Ghanaian youth.
Ken Agyapong further stressed that local entrepreneurs are already navigating high operational costs, regulatory hurdles, and limited access to capital.
He called on the government and relevant state agencies to implement business-friendly policies and ensure that revenue mobilisation does not suffocate enterprises critical to Ghana’s economic growth.
